自己是喜欢换主题的人，就在写博客的最初阶段，自己用的是sablog程序，会换成WordPress，也是因为它的主题用也用不完。可是，后来，我发现，即使拥有这么多免费的主题，还是很难找到一个完全适合一自己口味和品位的主题。所以，开始尝试找一些如何制作Wordpress 主题的教程。当然，很可惜，没有找到。找到的也写得很不全面，只能一直自已摸索。

今天，我准备写这样的一个教程。把如何制作一个Wordpress主题的主要知识全部介绍给你。或者，更确切地说，我会把主要的方法和工具，加上一些必要的技术介绍给你，让你拥有最必要资源、省更多的时间，而更轻松创建一个Wordpress主题。一般情况下，你会想，我是不是有能力创建一个Wordpress主题？下面是适合的群体，即所有有兴趣的人都是可以的，这里的教程会让你成功的：

1. 懂得CSS，但不熟悉Wordpress主题的；
2. 不懂CSS，但有兴趣，并且会争取实现的；
3. 不想写一个完整的主题，但想把别人的主题修改得漂亮的。

让我们先来看一个列出你可能需要的一些东西吧，下面会全面介绍这些：

1. WordPress本地调试工具：下载地址：Xampp 或 EasyPHP ；
2. WordPress程序，下载请到：WordPress Download；
3. 基本的CSS知识，如果不想看书，这里是非常好的学习地方：CSS教程；
4. WordPress主题制作电子书：Download it；
5. 可以让你节省时间的空白主题；

OK，让我们一个一个来介绍吧：

1. WordPress本地调试工具

   Xampp，当然，最重要的是事是你已经下载了它。基本上，你只要一直按"下一步"就可以了。然后，把你的wordpress放在htdos这个文件里面。然后访问：http://localhost/phpmyadmin/，创建一个数据库。打开wp文件夹里面的wp-config-simple.php修改里面面的必要信息。打开 http://localhost/wordpress/就可以安装了。

   EasyPHP ，这个更容易了，我推荐新手使用这个。安装还是一直按"下一步"就得了。然后把你的wordpress文件夹放在，www这个文件夹里，访问http://localhost/mysql/创建数据库。打开http://localhost/，这就可以看到你的WP了。然后，安装WP，跟上面一样。

   Notice: 需要注意的是像迅雷之类的工具，会占用端口，最好关了它们，启动这两个软件的随便一个后，再启用这些工具，可以共享的。

2. WordPress程序

   英文版的可以在官方下载，上面的下载链接也是英文版的，了解更多？那么，移步WordPress.ORG吧；

   中文汉化的可以看：WP中文团队汉化版

3. 基本的CSS知识

   在CSS教程这个站里面，可以让你不费力地学习CSS，还有HTML/xHTML/XML等。最重要的是有实例，这样可以让你轻松理解。虽然我自己是看书学习的，但我想，这里或许会更适合你。如果是看书的话，我推荐你看两本。不过，是在有一些CSS基础看的。第一本是：《CSS网站布局实录》科学出版社；第二本是《精通CSS》，人民邮电出版社。

4. WordPress制作电子书

   这是一本由WPdesigner.com的small potato写的教程。原文是英文的， Denis翻译了，也就是我爱水煮鱼的中文版本，我想，这对于中文用户更有用。但，有时候，翻译会有一些理解上的困难。所以，建议你对比英文版的看。那样可以让你更确切地了解每个细节。中文版的在上面那个链接已经提供下载，英文的请移步至： WPdesigner Version。

5. WordPress空白主题

   或许你从来未听过这个，或者已经看过，只是感觉他们太难看了，所以没有过多地关注。甚至认为，这么垃圾的主题，怎么还放出来下载呢？呵呵，事实上，这些是真正的高手才能做到的。OK，废话太多了，下载吧！首选当然是结构良好的Sandbox，请看：WordPress主题制作新手必备品: Sandbox Theme；备选的是，WordPress Blank Theme（ Download）。而无论如何，这些会让你省力，特别是作为一个新手。不过，创建自己最具特色的主题，还是需要自己把这些主题的结构作一些变化的，最好是自己重写一个。

6. 相关的代码和函数

   最重要的是：WordPress Template Tags，这里可以找到你需要所有函数，我想，没有比这个在找代码这方面，更能帮助到你的。更多的可以看：WPer必备：汇编大量Wordpress代码。

7. 完善你的WordPress主题

   或许你想做一个CMS主题，或者一个Magazine主题。但总找不到一所需要的技术。你想为你的博客添加Ajax功能的评论，但你没有不知道怎么做。这里会教你怎么完成的：

8. 网页制作的浏览器和调工具

   你已经写出了代码，把一个基本的结构写了出来。到这个时候，应该是最难的地方了。特别是对于新手，你不知道怎样调试你的CSS，不知道怎么让它更好地适应不同的浏览器。那么，你更需要下面这些工具了：

   • 主流的浏览器：IE / Firefox/ Opera/ Safari
   • IE多版本共存工具：IE tester，集IE5.5/6.0/7.0/8.0beta于一身的工具；备选：Multiple IE
   • Firefox强力扩展：Firebug & Web developer，功能有点重复，不过，我喜欢一起用

9. 推荐几个创作灵感的CSS Gallery

   这里是我喜欢的，但我不知道你是否能从真正的意义上把它们当作一种资源。呵呵，无论如何，记住，一句就可以了：别人的不一定好过你，但或许跟你不同。这个理由已经足够让你好好学习了吧，^,^…

General useage of the theme and configuration

BranfordMagazine is built to support the current version of WordPress (2.3). If you get fatal errors related to tags (”Call to undefined function: is_tag”), please upgrade.

In the “index.php” and “sidebar.php” templates, you will find a series of query_posts functions which refer to specific category ID numbers from my database.

Example:

< ?php query_posts(‘showposts=1&cat=4′); ?>

You will need to change them to reflect the ID numbers in your own database. They can be found in your control panel under Manage >> Categories.

branfordmagazine支持当前版本WordPress（2.3），如果你发现诸如“致命错误”的标签（"命名为不明函数：is_tag" ），请升级。

How to use the tabed section and the lead story

BranfordMagazine features a lead story with a photo, a category title, an article title and an excerpt. This is part of the tabed section on top of the homepage. The content of the tabed section will be defined and configured in the “tabs.php” file. Everything that is displayed as a tab and its content has to be configured here.

Let’s start with the photo. First find an appropriate image and resize it to a size that fits (300×200px is fine). Next,upload it using standard WP-Upload functionality. Make sure the standard upload path is used (normally /wp-content/uploads/).

Write your story and put it into the right category (Standard is the category with ID 1). You might also write an optional excerpt for full text control.

Define the custom field key and value by typing the name of the key “leadimage” and it′s value which is the path of the image after /wp-content/uploads/. This is quite easy to find in the uploader of the post. Once you have typed in a key it is available for all other posts, so you don′t have to type it in twice. In the picture you see all required keys and an example of the value for the lead image.

You can put almost any type of content into the tabed section like most recent posts, popular posts, recent comments or simply some text. For some purposes you need to install certain plugins (like for the popular posts).

如何使用tabed section（标签分页界面）和lead story（头条文章）

branfordmagazine features（branfordmagazine特写）是一篇带照片的头条文章、一个类别标题、一个文章标题或一个摘要。这是网页顶部tabed section的一部分，这个tabed section的内容在“tabs.php”中定义和配置。一切都显示为一个标签，其内容已被配置在这里。

The idea behind the featured articles is to have a category for teasers, specials and whatever you like to show in a featured way.

Create a category and name it e.g. “Featured Articles”. Make sure the ID of this category is called in the relevant area in the index.php file.

The relevant area is called “leftcol”. You have to define the Featured Article category in the query_posts call. While “showposts=3″ means the three most recent posts from the category are displayed and “cat=7″ means the category with ID 7. You have to define the ID once again in the wp_list_catagories template tag. You have to use custom fields again to display the image here and the key for that field is “featuredarticleimage”.

If you don′t want to display the Featured Articles category in the Sidebar you have to exclude it.

featured articles（特集）部分

“featured articles”部分的设计思路就是假设有一个难以处理的类别，用来展示特别的或任何类型文章的一个特别方式。

新建一个类别，命名为例如：“Featured Articles（特集）”，确保这个类别的ID在index.php的“相关位置”中（如图）。

“相关位置”是指“leftcol”，你必须确定“Featured Article”类别在query_posts中被引用，而"showposts=3"是指显示3篇最新的文章，

"cat=7"是指类别ID为7。你要再次使用自定义字段去显示图片，自定义字段中的“key”填写为"featuredarticleimage"。

如果你不想在侧栏中展示“Featured Article”，你就去掉它。

The middle homepage column

In the middle column you can teaser the first article of any other catagory except the News and the Featured Articles (of course you can show these as well but does that really make sense?). The excerpt of the most recent article of each category will be shown here. In the demo you see the first one with a thumbnail image and the others without. If you like to give it a thumbnail you have to use custom field again. The key for this custom field is “rightcolimage” and it works in the same way as for the Featured Article and the Lead Article.

The middle homepage column（中栏）

Special page templates: The Featured Page

This theme comes with two additional templates for static WordPress pages. One is the “Featured Page” template. Its purpose is to build a page that has some featured content on top that comes along with an image of the same size like the homepage image in the tabed section (300×200px). You have three different areas you can edit seperately by using – you guessed it – custom fields again.

If you set up this custom fields correctly it should look kinda like that:

Below the top-section that is powered by the custom fields you see the regular content that you entder via the WordPress writepanel.

Special page templates: The Featured Page（特殊页面模板：精选页）

Special page templates: The 3-Columns-Page

This template gives you the opportunity to display three different categories in a static page. It can be a nice starting point if you use it e.g as the entry for a news section with three sub-categories. You don′t have to enter any content via the WP write panel since this page shows the most recent posts from three categories that you define.

The code for the three columns uses three different loops (what a surprise) to display the most recent post of three different categories and custom fields to display the image on top of each article. In addition the three most recent posts of the specific category are teasered below the excerpt of the post.

Special page templates: The 3-Columns-Page（特殊页面模板：3栏页）
